If you are studying in France for 3 months or less, you will need a short-stay visa:
This type of visa is issued to individuals entering France to participate in short-term training programs, internships, conferences, and business meetings not exceeding 90 days. With this visa, you will not have the benefits of a long-stay visa (access to employment, social security, housing assistance). You cannot stay in France beyond its expiration date. This visa does not allow you to apply for a French residence permit. If you wish to extend your stay, you must apply for a new visa from your home country.

If you are studying in France for more than 3 months up to 1 year, you will need a long-stay student visa equivalent to a residence permit (VLS-TS):

To submit your visa application, you need to gather the following documents:

  • Valid passport.
  • Passport photos (according to consulate criteria).
  • Documents proving that you have sufficient financial means for the entire study period, which is €615 per month (as of July 2022).
  • Please check the France Visas website, as this amount may change.
  • Proof of accommodation for the first three months of your stay.
  • Proof of enrollment in the higher education institution: acceptance or enrollment letter.

If your country is subject to the “Studies in France” procedure:
The “Studies in France” procedure becomes the reference procedure for non-EU countries. Students residing in one of the 66 countries affected by the “Studies in France” procedure must make a specific application for enrollment in a higher education institution via the “Études en France” platform and proceed with their visa application. To find out if your country is one of the 66 countries, click here.

On this platform, you must:

  • Submit your documents.
  • Provide information about your educational background and your degrees.
  • Submit your application to Campus France and pay the fees. You will need to specify the Campus France office that pertains to you. This depends on your place of residence. For example: if you are Senegalese and reside in Cameroon, you must register with the Campus France office in Cameroon.
  • Then, you will have a pedagogical interview with Campus France and take a French language test.

If your country does not have the “Studies in France” procedure from Campus France, contact the nearest French consulate in your city or visit the official France Visas website for information regarding your visa application.

Please note that the process can take some time, which is why applying for a visa as soon as you receive the official enrollment certificate from the Luxury Hotelschool is encouraged.

If you have arrived in the country with a VLS-TS visa (long-stay visa equivalent to a residence permit) marked “STUDENT,” you must validate your visa online within three months of your arrival.

To study in France, all non-European students must hold a student visa. How?

By visiting the government website ANEF (Administration of Foreigners in France) and clicking on “I validate my VLS-TS.”

Bring your passport, visa, and a credit card. It will only take you 10 to 15 minutes to complete the validation process. It is mandatory to complete this step within three months of your arrival in France to convert it into a residence permit valid for the duration of your studies. This will allow you to stay in France legally and benefit from social advantages.

Once validated, you will receive at your email address:

  • Your ANEF login credentials
  • The confirmation of your VLS-TS validation for download.

You must always keep this document with you along with a copy of your passport. With your validated visa, you are allowed to apply for housing assistance, register for social security, and work up to 20 hours per week (964 hours per year).

If you do not validate your visa within the first three months of your arrival, you will no longer be considered a legal resident in France and will not be allowed to re-enter the Schengen Area. Most consulates provide instructions when they issue visas.

How to renew your residence permit?

All students holding a one-year visa or residence permit must renew their residence permit to continue studying in France.

To do this, you need to make the request on the government website l’ANEF (Administration des étrangers en France) and click on “I request or renew a residence permit.”

When to proceed with the application?
You must submit the request 2 to 4 months before the expiration of your residence permit.
