Open a bank account in France

Opening a bank account in France is one of the first steps to take upon your arrival in France.

The necessary documents to open a French bank account are:

  • A copy of your passport or European identity card
  • A document proving your residence in France – a rental agreement (or lease), electricity bill, or internet bill. (If you are staying with a relative, you will need a proof of residence in their name + a sworn statement + a copy of their identity card)
  • A copy of your school certificate confirming your enrollment.
  • A copy of your visa or residence permit

Note: If you are a minor student, you cannot open a bank account in France until you reach the age of majority. However, a legal representative can open a bank account for you. They must be physically present when the account is opened and provide an identity document, proof of residence showing that they reside in France (address + name/first name of your legal representative), and proof of schooling in your name.
